Active Issues (2025β2026)
With declining enrollment, the future of the DY Intermediate/Middle School has been under active discussion. A community process run jointly with the Yarmouth Select Board is exploring options for the former Mattacheese site. Community meetings are ongoing through 2026. A new MES building project is also underway. MES Building Project β
The School Committee sets the regional district budget apportioned between Yarmouth and Dennis. The annual budget is one of the largest single line items in both town budgets and is a perennial source of debate at Town Meeting. The FY2027 budget process runs JanuaryβMay 2026.
The School Committee voted to participate in the state school choice program for 2025β2026, allowing the district to accept students from outside Dennis and Yarmouth. This generates additional state revenue but affects enrollment planning.
