πŸ“‹ What the Commission Does

πŸƒ Youth & Adult Programs
Oversees the Recreation Department’s year-round programs β€” youth sports leagues (soccer, baseball, basketball), summer camp, swim lessons, adult fitness, and senior activities.
🌳 Parks & Facilities
Governs town parks, athletic fields, playgrounds, and recreation facilities. Sets policies for field reservations, facility use, and park maintenance priorities.
πŸ’° Budget Oversight
Reviews and approves the Recreation Department’s annual operating budget, including program fees, staff, and capital equipment for parks and facilities.
🌊 Beach & Waterfront Access
Works with the Select Board and DPW on management of Yarmouth’s public beaches, boat ramps, and waterfront access points β€” critical assets given the town’s coastal character.

⚠️ Active Issues (2025–2026)

🏊 Community Pool Future
The commission is evaluating options for Yarmouth’s aging recreation facilities, including whether to pursue a new community pool or aquatic center as part of the town’s capital improvement plan.
β›³ Golf Course Recreation Coordination
Yarmouth’s two municipal golf courses (Bass River and Bayberry Hills) generate significant revenue; the commission coordinates with the Golf Enterprise Committee on shared recreation priorities.
🌊 Beach Sticker & Access Policies
Annual review of beach sticker programs, parking policies, and non-resident access fees β€” balancing revenue generation with equitable access for all Yarmouth residents.
